Ray began Ray Bethers Trucking Company in the early 50s hauling logs and timber products from the mountains of Northern Utah to destinations around the Intermountain West. Ray actually began driving truck at 13 years old helping his father deliver coal to customers in the Heber City area. Driving was something that got in his blood quickly and has never left.
Ray started with three trucks which he ran out of a small shop and office in Kamas Utah, driving one of the tractors himself for several years. He drove most of the highways of the West and has repaired most anything that can go wrong with a diesel engine, tractor, or trailer. This wealth of experience has served him well through the years as he grew his company.
In early 1971 Ray was running 8 trucks out of the same small shop and office he began using in the late 50s. He was a full-time "manager" at this time and needed some room to grow. He had expanded his business to provide services to many of the up and coming manufacturing and building supply companies in the Intermountain West. It became obvious that he needed a change. In June of 1971 he incorporated the business and moved it to Murray, Utah in the middle of the Salt Lake Valley. He commuted 100 miles per day from that point until he modified his business in the early 2000s.
Through hard work and perseverance, Ray grew his business from humble beginnings to 50 tractors and 150 flatbed, drop-deck, and step-deck trailers. During the 80s, Ray Bethers Trucking, Inc. became known as one of the premier flatbed carriers in the Intermountain West.
Working with several manufacturer's of name-brand products, Ray's business grew rapidly during this time. He was chosen at this time to be one of the test platforms for Caterpillar Diesel Engines, a relationship that lasted over 2 decades. He also hired and worked with many highly skilled professionals, many of whom remained with the company for decades.
